Vacheron Constantin opens a new boutique in the beating heart of Rome

Vacheron Constantin is opening a new boutique in Rome at Via Condotti, 29, nestled in the beating heart of the Italian capital’s luxury shopping district. This new location will mark the Maison’s third store in Italy.

The boutique’s debut coincides with a landmark event for the Maison, which is celebrating the 270th anniversary of its founding, a milestone that pays tribute to watchmaking excellence. Founded in Geneva in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron, Vacheron Constantin has always pursued excellence, passing it down through generations to balance technical mastery with artistic sensitivity.

Its various spaces introduce an all-new design concept with a decor that reflects the Maison’s historic and contemporary identity, which also incorporates the brand’s iconic symbols. Its standout feature is the combination of neutral tones with understated furnishings. The boutique also draws inspiration from the beauty of Rome, featuring details and interior design items that echo the majesty of the Eternal City.

“Momenti”, a work of art celebrating the Maison’s relationship with Rome

To celebrate the opening of the Rome boutique, Vacheron Constantin is presenting a new artistic collaboration, the first of its kind in Italy. The Maison has commissioned an exclusive work of art from Denis Di Luca (Di Luca Ceramics), an Italian ceramic artist from Urbino. The artist’s style focuses on blending traditional and contemporary techniques while maintaining a close relationship with ceramics as an expressive medium.

This precious partnership has led to the creation of a majestic sculpture called “Momenti” that embodies the concept of time and continuity, while celebrating the close relationship between the Maison and the Italian capital. Exhibited in the new boutique, the piece is inspired by the Maltese Cross, the brand’s emblem, and recalls the magnificence of the Roman Empire and the shape of Rome’s historic squares. The twelve ceramic spheres that make up its composition represent the hours, bringing to mind the infinite cycle of time and symbolising harmony between the measurement of time and the cyclical nature of life. The spheres also call to mind celestial bodies and the movement of the stars, a key point of reference for ancient Romans who measured time using sundials and hourglasses.

Ceramics are combined with the Raku and Saggar Firing techniques, which symbolise constant improvement in the conservation and celebration of works of art. This reflects Vacheron Constantin’s own philosophy of continuous improvement and epitomises the art of restoration.

Blending watchmaking excellence with local culture

The Rome boutique is located in the courtyard of a historic building on Via Condotti and can be accessed by walking down a long corridor with a travertine floor. This type of stone is typical to Rome, playing an important part in architectural masterpieces such as the Coliseum and the colonnades on Saint Peter’s Square. The decision to pave the whole corridor with travertine harks back to tradition and the historical significance of the boutique’s location. The walls of the corridor feature a decor that interweaves Maltese Crosses, the emblem of Vacheron Constantin, showcasing elegant shades of blue and gold outlines.

Once they have crossed the threshold, the client is welcomed into a space that exudes sophistication with a pared back yet cosy design, enhanced with exquisite details. Lighting plays a key role in enhancing its different areas. In the first room, used to display the collections, a subtle wallpaper with a hot-air balloon pattern designed by Fornasetti pays homage to the theme of travel that is so dear to Vacheron Constantin. On the opposite wall, wood panelling is adorned with a half Maltese Cross lit up by an LED outline. The centre of the room hosts a table made of wood and travertine with glass display cabinets and counter space. A Murano glass light fixture and a silk rug echoing the colour of the wood complete the furnishings.

In the next room, also dedicated to displaying collections of watches, a cabinet from Fornasetti’s collection, the Palazzo model in white, stands out as a fine piece of furniture that pays homage to Rome’s magnificent architecture. On the ceiling, an exquisite light fixture made of metal and Murano glass adds a touch of flawless refinement to the room.

In the centre, a large travertine table hosts counter space and display cabinets that were custom designed for the boutique. Around the table stand elegant seats made from metal and caramel-coloured leather, while on the walls, large mirrors replicate shapes and illuminate the room. The main feature of this space is a wide arch that frames one wall, showcasing a Maltese Cross motif in shades of blue, as well as an illuminated Vacheron Constantin logo.

The VIP lounge

The transition between the boutique’s different rooms is created by arches inspired by Roman history, often combined with columns that also celebrate the capital’s glorious past.

By following their path through the store, the client will reach the VIP Lounge, which features a wooden wall and mirrors that appear to expand the room. Here, soft and warm lighting enhances the mellow tones of the walls and furnishings. Fornasetti wallpaper with a dark blue background combines with a wall of wooden shelving and a counter with a travertine top and a wooden base. In the opposite corner, a folding screen produces an impressive effect. A coffee table and low seats stand in the centre of the room,

A wide screen mounted in a large wall cabinet displays images of Vacheron Constantin creations. All the room’s materials express delicate sophistication through the neutral tones of white, beige and brown.

An exclusive space for the clientele

A long staircase leads to the second floor, which hosts a spacious lounge with a number of striking features. The maroon-coloured walls are decorated by a Maltese Cross on one side, while the other side displays the Maison’s famous motto in French and in English: “Faire mieux si possible, ce qui est toujours possible” and “Do better if possible, and that is always possible”. Works of art dedicated to the concept of time complete the room’s warm and intimate atmosphere. This area is designed to host exclusive client events.
